"Cannot fault nursing and medical care but listening could be improved"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Medicine (Wards 5 & 8) University Hospital Wishaw / General Surgery (Wards 16-18)

(as the patient),

I was recently taken to A&E at Wishaw General Hospital having developed a severe bladder infection.  I was then  moved to a holding ward before being admitted to Ward 5 for treatment and then to Ward 14 from which I was then discharged. I cannot fault the nursing and medical care I received throughout this period, it was excellent and thank all the staff who took such good care of me.

However, my jumper and some cream went missing on Ward 5, I  raised this several times but the jumper was never found. Neither was the cream.

In addition to this I found the discharge procedure on ward 14 quite distressing. When I was being discharged one nurse insisted I take the zimmer frame with me but it was not my zimmer frame, it belonged to the hospital. She also  insisted I should take the raised toilet seat, again, this was not mine  but the hospital's.  I could not seem to get her to understand that these items were not mine - it upset me when she was being so insistent.

Dear Falconzj75,

I am sorry to hear that you developed a bladder infection and had to present to the ED and be admitted to the ECU and subsequently moving to two downstream wards.

The staff within ED and the ECU will be pleased to hear that your care was good and that you felt well cared for. I will ensure your feedback is passed onto them.

In respect to your loss of items and concerns over the discharge process this will be be reviewed by my Senior Nurse colleagues from ward 5 and ward 14 and they will feedback to you.

I hope this finds you feeling better and continuing to improve.

Best wishes

Andy
