I was taken into A and E due to suffering extreme one sided pain whilst suffering a miscarriage. The miscarriage had been going on for 6 days already. I arrived by ambulance and was dealt with compassionately and looked at swiftly. I had an ultrasound and was sent up to the surgical assessment unit. I spent a day and night in the Sau until being transferred to B4 Ward. I spent another day being cared for before having to have a laparoscopy followed by several more days in hospital before being allowed home.
All staff and surgeons that dealt with me were very kind, helpful and informative. The food was good, the staff work very hard and are clearly very under staffed. Despite this, they do as much as they can to help, everyone and make them feel comfortable. I can not fault the care I received whilst there and have had good follow up care also. It is extremely sad that the nhs is understaffed and under funded. The quality of care I received despite the clear lack of staffing was above and beyond. It was very clear how much pressure the nurses were under due to the staffing levels but they were always helpful, cheerful, kind and patient despite their stress. There were several very elderly patients on the ward who clearly had dementia and were very deaf. Despite the Constant repetitive cries for assistance or questions, at all hours, the nurses dealt with them with compassion and respect.
I myself had several moments of crying and being upset due to my situation and was comforted by nurses and surgeons alike.
The hospital in places is tired and worn but, it was clean and the bed was comfortable.
We are extremely lucky to have our NHS and I hope it continues on for many years to come. I for one am very, very grateful for all the care I received. I cannot thank all the teams that dealt with me enough.
