"My Husband"

About: Victoria Hospital / General Surgery

(as a relative),

My husband had an arterial resection for bowel cancer recently. We were told the operation was going to be in the morning and I was advised to phone at 1pm I was advised that he had went into surgery at 11.45 and to phone back at 5pm but when I phoned there was confusion as to where he was, my son was advised to phone at six still nothing and then at 7 we were advised he was in the recovery ward, we were really worried because we were advised surgery would take between 2 to 3 hours and recovery 1 - 3 hours so the times didn't add up. We found out later he didn't get to surgery until after 3 and there was a problem during surgery but if there is a way for departments to communicate both with each other and with the patients family it would make a very stressful time easier
