"We can't play sports with staff anymore"

About: Wathwood Hospital

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I feel I’m going to be trapped here for ages.  I used to self-medicate in prison, if you are well enough to self-medicate then it should be on offer on every ward..

I have been in Wathwood before. Back then I could play 1–1 badminton and football with staff in the sports hall, we can’t do that anymore.

I have the best Doctor in the country, Dr Hayes.  Also the best Advocates, OT’s and Psychologist…

Thanks for your post, hopefully I can address some of the points made.

We are currently helping patients to administer their own medication in the lodges as people progress through the hospital and risk reduce patients have more access to things like self medication, hopefully you will be moving on soon.

Regarding sports we still have sports on 6 days a week and staff will play sports when available and we have our sports day coming in in a couple of weeks, so please keep a look out for the posters.

Thanks you for your feedback regarding your Doctor, advocate and psychologist. I will forward the post on.
We really appreciate you taking time to send in a post, thanks again.

Phil

Thank you for raising these issues. I'm grateful for Phil's replies. It's so encouraging to be reminded of the great work done in Wathwood.

Thanks to Peter Wright for taking time to respond and sorry I did not mention the Occupational Therapists's who were also identified as doing an excellent job.

Thanks again for writing a post, it is appreciated.

We have been rolling out new sports and have updated some gym equipment adding to our fabulous gym allowing patients to train whilst watching the world cup. We also have our sports day planned in for the 19th July. I am sure you will be able to see the posters on the wards, I hope you join in the day long activities. The swimming pool is also an excellent form of exercises, especially this time of year when it is hot, so I hope you take full advantage of this.

Thansk again for your post and we hope you send through another soon.

Phil
