"Head injury - attended 4 departments"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I was taken by ambulance to LGI early hours of Sunday morning after sustaining a head injury. Firstly the ambulance crew who first attended to me were so lovely, caring and attentive, very professional. I attended A&E, then I was taken to MSAA unit to have my head wound sutured. I could hear the nurse in charge speaking on the phone to A&E department, she was concerned as I was still vomitting, she sounded as though she had to get them to understand that I needed to go back to A&E as it wasn't safe for me to be left on this unit. She didn't back down and kept insisting I needed to be reassessed. She was brilliant! Can't remember her name. Then the doctor came to suture my wound, she explained everything and was so kind, I vomitted in the middle of the procedure, but she took her time and made sure I was ok before continuing.

I was then transferred back to A&E, the staff were so lovely, professional and also very kind, allowing me to lay down in a cubicle as I felt like I was about to pass out an began vomitting again. They were very thorough, despite how very busy they were with people who were in a worse state than me, they were all so kind and showed concern and kindness throughout my stay there.

From here I was taken by a lovely porter to the CT department, he made conversation and took time to explained what he could and reassured me he would return as soon as I'd had the scan of my head. I was aware that they were also very busy and run off their feet in this department, despite having at least one awkward customer the young lady doing the CT scan remained polite courteous and professional the whole time.

From here I attended the Clinical Descisions Unit. I was sat in the waiting area with my husband awaiting my CT results. Sitting there I watched and heard how staff from domestics, health care assistants, nurses, doctors and the advanced nurse practitioner all interacted with patients, family, colleagues and of course myself. Despite the obvious pressures and challenges they all face, I could not fault any one of them on their professionalism, their kindness, patience and care especially with difficult and awkward patients.

I am also a nurse and would like to say how grateful I am to all those fantastic staff and teams involved in my care at LGI that day. I feel so lucky, privileged and so proud of our NHS.

Thank you
