"Terrible Care of Pensioner"

About: New Cross Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

I am disgusted with the care my elderly relative is receiving from your hospital.

She has deteriorated significantly since being in your care and I do have to wonder whether this is as a result of the lack of care from yourselves. I too, work for the NHS and know the difficultly staff are under with reducing budgets and having to do more with less, however I am horrified at how she is being treated so feel this needs to be addressed.

She is unable to eat on her own and the flippant comment that she wont eat is accepted amongst ward staff. She is not being given her medication and once again an acceptance amongst staff that she wont take her tablets. Yes, she is elderly and yes she may need coaxing and settling down to take them, but she will take them. A member of the nursing staff  today was rude and obstructive. Not what the NHS stands for and certainly not the values of your NHS Trust. I would not recommend anyone to use New Cross Hospital, I feel she is being left to die rather than treated for a fall.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post comments regarding your relative's patient experience.

I am sorry for any distress this matter has caused. To enable us to look further into your concerns, I would be grateful if you could contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01902 695362 who may be able to assist further.
