I arrived at my long awaited appointment, i arrived in a wheelchair, i was in considerable pain as i have been over the past few months. I find it difficult to sit or stand for any length of time. On arrival i asked if there was somewhere i could lie down on my left side, i explained the situation i was in pain wise. I was told there wasnt anywhere and i would have to wait to see the doctor. I had to be assisted by my sister in law to stand and sit 36 times whilst waiting to see the doctor, all this in front of other patients, there was no dignity or understanding and i have never felt so embarrassed!! My pain was increasing by the second. I eventually got to see the doctor, i asked if i could please lie down and was fully assisted by the doctor to get onto the bed. The pain i was in was immense. I feel this initial experience has put me of from going back to the department. Surely in a department that deals with spinal problems there would be somewhere available for a patient like me to be made comfortable and not lose dignity. As soon as i left the department i had to take 2 doses of opiod painkiller in quick succession, i live on the top floor of a block of flats so i had to tackle the stairs when i arrived back. I want to say i am still getting over the trauma of increased pain since my visit....please try to accomodate people more we are all individuals, i wasnt asking for much just somewhere to lie down on my side to releive pressure.....
"I actually went to spinal outpatients"
