"My experience in neurology"

About: Royal Preston Hospital / Neurology

I had my first appointment with a doctor last year after waiting a few months. I've been trying to find answers to my condition for over 20 years as I've reason to believe I've m.s. I was a bit hesitant to see him as any other neurologist or go have looked me up and down and have dismissed the idea of me having m.s without even running some tests, or put my symptoms down to fibromyalgia. I thought the doctor was going to do the same when he uttered the words just like any other I don't think you have m.s but he listened and looked at my notes. In the end he did arrange for a full spinal mri. The results came back and after some time arranged for a lumbar puncture. On Thursday the 16th may I saw him again. He told me the lumbar puncture was normal so he didn't think it was possible but couldn't rule it out either. He thinks it's nothing neurological but agreed to keep an eye on things. He is still puzzled as to why I can't walk. Anyway just as I thought that was that the nurse handed me two forms for bloods to be taken. Now after doing my research and reading my booklets on m.s I've come to realise that actually he has listened hence the blood tests to rule out anything that can mimic m.s

Oh and the doctor just to help you out. It's not that I can't walk it's just find it difficult because of pain and stiffness which is getting worse and sometimes the message from my brain to my feet is delayed. I started off using 1 stick then two to eventually needing my wheelchair more and more, but I don't want to give up completely just yet. So I just want to say a big thankyou to the doctor for believing in me and a big thankyou from the nursing staff who took their time to talk to me
