"I feel like I can be open with her"

About: One Recovery Bucks / High Wycombe

(as a service user),

I have used the “STARS” service before but I felt that the member of staff I was paired with wasn’t right for me, since it has become ‘ORB’ I have had contact with a different member of staff, I feel that she has an in depth knowledge and understanding of the situation I am in, and as a result I trust her opinion and guidance,

I have found that people can be educated in drugs and what they do to you but having an understanding or experience is very different, unfortunately nothing when it comes to addiction is logical and that is something that is misunderstood by some of the workers I have come across. This staff member made me feel very comfortable in the fact that she understands  and can relate to my position, so when she gave me guidance I believed that what she said was the right info and that if I follow her plan and advice then I can achieve abstinence from drugs, I feel like I can be open with her and trust that she will not judge me or betray my confidence.
I am hoping that she will sort me with the best keyworker for me, I am disappointed that she herself cannot be my keyworker as I feel she would be a huge positive in my recovery.
In my experience  trust and respect is vital to have with your key worker, its very hard to engage if you feel that your keyworker is just there to sign a script  and doesn't really have anything invested in your recovery, so I feel very lucky and confident that this staff member is involved in mine.

I think that addicts are fragile and easily demoralised so at the time they ask for help they should receive it as soon as possible because if they don't, and they have to wait until the time is right again, it might be too late.

Thanks for taking time out to give us your feedback. It's great for me as service manager to hear that you found one of our staff members really living our core values. Trust, understanding and a non judgemental approach are the key skills that really make a difference to the therapeutic relationship between service users and workers.

It sounds like you have bonded with one of our community connectors via accessing our open access. Unfortunately our community connectors don't delivery structured psycho-social interventions or have responsibility for prescriptions, as they have lots of other responsibilities. But I hope I can reassure that you will get a recovery worker who should provide the same standard of care and respect you have already received. No-one should be just given out a prescription as we don't provide this in isolation from psycho-social interventions. I whole heartedly agree treatment should be provided timely as people do and will lose motivation, increasing risks. If you don't feel like you are seen timely please get back in touch.

I would recommend really accessing all we have to offer with ORB including our groups and recovery network, my team are really committed to keeping service use safe and supporting them find recovery.

Wishing you the very best

Tracy
