"My husband's illness and the care he received"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Surgery (Wards 16-18)

(as a carer),

My husband took seriously ill in august 2016. he collapsed in the house and I took him to hospital. he had a trapped gallstone in the bile duct which then had caused the onset of severe pancreatitis. He ended up in hospital for 8 weeks of which 4 weeks were spent in ICU. in the first week I was told that he may not make it. I was completely devastated as he had always been a fit and healthy man with no previous health issues. I felt my world was collapsing. The staff at Wishaw General were fantastic-especially those in ICU. He was treated with such care and respect. He could not have asked for better care and they saved his life. A few months after he came out of hospital we received a letter asking if we both would like to attend a course called Aspire at Monklands hospital. We gladly accepted and both of us came to the course. it was terrific to receive support from Doctors, nurses, pysiotherapists, pharmacists and psychologists. They gave us tremendous support, encouragement and were.   there to answer any questions/concerns we may have.   It was also great to meet other folk who had been through a similar thing. the Aspire course really helped both my husband and me to get our lives back. The course has been invaluable and I cannot recommend it enough. I am very thankful to all those who participated/delivered this course,

Dear mazt,

Many thanks for taking the time to post your lovely comments. I am delighted to hear that both you and your husband are recovering from such a stressful and traumatic experience in your lives. inS:PIRE has become such a valuable resource for our patients and their families and we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated team providing this service to our patients after discharge from our Adult Critical Care Unit. The staff in both the ACCU and the inS:PIRE team will be delighted to read your lovely feedback and I will ensure it is shared with them,

Again many thanks

Best Wishes

Maureen
