About: Wythenshawe Hospital / Accident and emergency

I arrived at A&E with my son at 9:30pm ish . He was complaining of chest pain . Our concern was a close family member last year 2017 thought he had heartburn , but sadly had a cardiac arrest and passed away at the age of 49 .

On arrrival , we met the receptionist who booked us in. We stood up near the reception area , hoping the triage would soon shout my son’s name . However it soon became evident that we had a long wait to see the triage as the waiting room was at full capacity , coupled with a vast amount of emergencies via Ambulance to cope with . 2 hours later , the triage shouted my son and she carried out his observations , and said there would be a 3 hour wait . We found a couple of seats and waitied. A short time after , a nurse shouted my son and carried out an ECG in the blood room , then another nurse came in and took bloods. We waited. A Doctor came out and shouted my son , we went in a bay and he asked a series of questions , listened to his heart and diagnosed him with heartburn . The blood results were fine . He recommended some tablets and advised my son to change his diet and lifestyle . We walked away at 1:30am feeling relieved , feeling a sense of inner peace that nothing was wrong - And we could go home and sleep, safe in the knowledge that the Doctor had confirmed that he was ok .

My son and I would like to pass on our huge thanks to ALL the staff - from the reception to the Nurses / Doctors who were amazing despite being under pressure , they were all calm , and professional .

Superb . Inspirational .

Thank you for your positive comments posted on the NHS Choices website regarding your care in the A&E Department of the Wythenshawe Hospital.

It was very kind of you to take the time to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff. It was reassuring to read that you thought the care your son received despite the length of time you had to wait reassured you that your son was in good hands. We were also pleased to read that you felt that despite the pressures of the department, the nurses and doctors were calm and professional. We can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to the Head of Nursing for Unscheduled Care so that your kind words can be shared with the wider team.
