"DOP Eastbourne - Amberley Ward"

About: Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

All the other hospitals I've been to in Sussex have their own rooms, bathrooms and wifi. It's a basic nessitiy. Up all night next to loud psychotic people only a curtain between us, wouldn't wash for days as paranoid of sharing showers. No private space made me even more crazy. Also all the other sussex NHS inpatient hospitals have wifi, why not this one?! - please answer my question. It makes no sense. When sectioned it's important not be taken away from the outside world and able to connect watch movies listen to music on the internet. What made it even more frustrating is that other sussex NHS inpatient hospitals had wifi. Why not eastbourne? Staff were ok. Scary mixing with men in the dining kitchen garden area, was shouted at by a schizophrenic man which was really scary.

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch to raise your concerns

Managing the environment at DoP is an on-going challenge for the Trust and we are committed to reviewing where we provide our services as part of our long-term improvement plans. The unit is rented by Sussex Partnership (it has not been purpose built like other inpatient units in East Sussex) from Sussex Hospitals and means we are only able to make limited changes to the layout – this means that en-suite suite rooms cannot be provided. We know that the communal areas of the building are sometimes noisy and would always encourage you to speak with a member of staff there if they are feeling worried.

Each ward has a lounge which should provide a calmer space but we appreciate how upsetting it can be to witness and experience other people who are in distress in public areas and are sorry that this happened to you

.

We know that the Wi-Fi within the building is a problem and we are working with our Communications Team to address the matter of signal and have already asked for a patient accessible Wi-Fi option as we appreciate that this is source of frustration.

I appreciate the time taken to raise your concerns about your inpatient stay and would welcome an opportunity to discuss your views further if you would like to. My name is Jackie and I am the Amberley Ward manager - my contact details are below.

kind regards
