Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and professors in Ward 54 at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.
A couple of weeks ago, out of the blue, our gran walked into the hospital to get checked out for breathlessness. We found out she had a 'secondary cancer'. We didn't know about the first. It was all quite a shock. After a biopsy we were still none the wiser, and on Friday we found out the cancer was terminal and very aggressive.
From the talkative, chatty, loud woman we knew she quickly deteriorated physically and sadly passed away today. I am thankful all her (one) sister, daughters and grandchildren got to see her before she left us today.
All the staff have been exceptional in looking after her and keeping us up to date with the what/why/when. Thank you for letting us stay past visiting hours, thank you for treating her with respect, thank you for always making sure her water was fresh, thank you for allowing us to spend time with her today in her room, thank you for getting her wedding ring off, thank you for your kind words after our tragedy today.
Thank you for everything, especially Avril Langey (I think this is your name) for being so kind at the end of today.
Thank goodness we have a National Health Service, long may it live!
