"Appointment system/respect for patient"

About: Nottinghamshire County Teaching PCT

(as the patient),

My female GP appointment was switched to different doctor without advising me at reception. Apparently 'my' GP was rather busy that morning and so a colleague who was less busy had taken over some of these. Seems reasonable, perhaps.

On hearing my name called, and proceeding to the consulting room, this was explained to me and I was asked whether I had any objection (now a male GP) and frankly I think this was a bit late in the day - not easy to say 'no, thank you' when you've waited some time and are put in this situation on the spot.

I would have liked the opportunity to make this decision when I arrived at the surgery at the outset - i.e. be given the choice to wait as there was a delay, see an alternative GP sooner or maybe to make another appointment with the preferred, original GP at a later date. This would require the receptionist to be aware of what was happening, of course, but surely not an impossible request.
