"Emergency admission for incision and drainage"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / General Surgery (wards 64, 65, 66,& 67)

(as the patient),

Went to see my GP (McGlone practice) at 1030am with pain and discomfort from a pilonidal abscess. Referred to SAU at GRI. Seen straight away - staff absolutely brilliant and all introduced themselves (Lainy and another ANP whos name I forget as I was an anxious mess!). Assessed by an FY1 then FY2 followed by surgical registrar. All friendly and professional. Listed as an emergency GA for incision and drainage. Anaesthetist was amazing at putting me at ease. I work as a dentist and healthcare staff are often the worst patients so it really was appreciated. Sent to ward 65, again staff were really friendly (Donald done most of the assessment). Only stayed about 15 minutes on the ward then got sent to theatre.

Staff all brilliant, explained everything really well and operation finished. Recovery nurse again was brilliant at putting me at ease but unfortunately forgot her name probably due to pain medication.

Back to ward 65, looked after really well and discharged that night. From booking a GP appointment to being home post op in 12 hours is absolutely amazing, although I was disappointed with the pain medication I received on discharge. Would like to thank all the staff involved in my care, it really is appreciated especially with how anxious I was.

Dear Jordan1991

Many thanks for taking the time to share you experience on Care Opinion.

It is lovely to hear that you had such consistently good care from all of the staff and I hoped this made you feel less anxious. However, I am sorry to read that you were disappointed with your discharge medication.

I will share you post with the staff and I am sure that they will appreciate your comments.

Good luck with your recovery.

Best wishes

Nicole
