I had a bike accident and after getting excellent and fast treatment from the A and E department I attended the fracture clinic the next day.
There the Healthcare assistant Adweo managed the busy clinic with confidence and serenity. The consultant Mr Ferran saw me explained what my injury, yet told me that the Xray was difficult to explain and he would need a scan or possibly two to help him plan the best way to treat.
He immediately sought the expertise of a consultant Radiologist Dr Hirji on his mobile for advice about the best scan to do.
Within 1 hour I had had blood tests to check my kidney function (for the contrast CT), had a cannula sited and within 2 hours I had undergone a CT scan from a smiling and helpful CT radiographer who introduced herself by name immediately.
The consultant radiologist had told me to come to his office straight after the scan so he could inform me of the result.
Over the next hour, the 2 consultants personally explained in detail the list of injuries I had sustained (4 broken ribs, 2 of which had a double break, a dislocated collar bone with bruising and fluid in the lungs) and made a clear and sensible management plan.
All done in one day in the space of 4 hours.
