"A and E visit"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency

So apart from waiting almost 5 hrs for an ambulance I have MS and sufferd a nasty fall I had 3 ambulance sent to other people I can expect that.

But I suffered a fit and then I wasn't breathing extremely well.

However the 3 paramedics were outstanding and angry that I was the stickiest pt they had been diverted from and they said sorry.

That was ok the nurses and Dr's were again very good the A and E Dr was so lovely and showed compassion and understanding. That went along way.

I was a little concerned that both Dr's didn't know what MS crisis was however again not the end of the world. Thank you to everyone who looked after me on Sunday and showed me care and compassion and treated me with pain killers and antisickness medication very quickly.

I really am very thankful and I am more thankful I can be followed up at my local hospital

I am sorry to read that you had a lengthy wait for an ambulance to bring you to the North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) as this must have been a worrying time for you.

It is reassuring to know that when you arrived in the Emergency Department (ED) you were looked after by nurses and doctors who showed compassion and understanding. I am pleased that you received medication quickly to help your symptoms, and apologise if you felt the doctors were unaware of MS crisis.

In order to learn from your experience, it would be very helpful to have specific details of your attendance and, should you wish to share any further information, I would be grateful if you could contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) at the NDDH on telephone number 01271 314090 or e-mail at ndht.pals@nhs.net

In the meantime, I have forwarded on your kind comments to the Manager of the ED where they will be gratefully received and shared with staff.

Kind regards

Jayne
