"Very successful surgery but let down by personal..."

About: Trafford General Hospital

What I liked

The surgary was carried out very succsessfully with no major problems encountered so far.

What could be improved

The nursing care left a lot to be desired at times. I was offered a bowl to wash whilst still

unable to reach the bathroom but it never arrived and the same happened to the patient

in the next bed. The urine bottles used overnight were not emptied and leaked pools of urine on the over bed table by morning.

Anything else?

The medical nursing care was satisfactory particularly by 1 nurse but the personal care was missing making the overall experience a little negative.

The person on the reception desk was very helpful indeed, and an asset to the hospital.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding you experience of our Orthopaedic Service. We are glad to read that your surgery was carried out successfully, and thank you for your comment regarding the staff who were helpful.

We are concerned however to read your comments about the standard of assistance offered to help with your personal care. Please be reassured that this is not standard practice on the Orthopaedic Unit, nor is it the standard expected from nursing staff across the whole Trust. After reading your comments, a ward meeting was called to discuss your experience, and as a result, standards of personal care are being re-set with all nursing staff on the Orthopaedic Unit.

If you would like to contact our Patient Experience Team for more personalised feedback regarding your experience, please do not hesitate to do so, as we would be happy to help. We can be contacted on the telephone number 0161 746 2019.
