I was booked in to have a gastroscopy and colonoscopy in the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy. The prep for the colonoscopy started to make my eating disorder flare despite being well for a number of years, I spoke to the clinic on the phone about my concerns and they were fantastic! The nurse was very sensitive and compassionate which put me at ease, she took my details and spoke to a doctor for me, it was decided that at that moment we would cancel my appointment and seek advice.
A week later I rang the clinic to get an update and the gentleman who answered my call handled the situation with compassion and understanding, by the end of the call I had an appointment booked for a gastroscopy and a sigmoidoscopy, which he happily described for me to make sure that I was ok with that decision.
I had my appointment in May and the staff at the clinic were also incredibly understanding and friendly. I found the gastroscopy to be incredibly traumatic, but the two nurses and the doctor performing it were very supportive and encouraging; they held my hand the whole way through and talked to me through the sigmoidoscopy which was a welcomed distraction. The ladies in the recovery ward afterwards were very friendly too, they provided me with a cup of tea and some toast almost down to the second I was allowed to have them.
The only thing that I would say is that I’d have liked to have the results explained a little more; nothing was found but I was left with a few questions as to what that meant and what I should do about my pain and symptoms now.
Overall, the staff as a whole were fantastic and couldn’t have been more helpful and understanding.
"Staff were fantastic"
