My fast tracked ear operation - from Newham Hospital consultant in February to operation at Whipps Cross on Thursday which also included a CT scan in between was breathtakingly smooth. Look away if you are screamish -(basically I had my skull above my ear scraped to fill a cavity in my ear and a piece of inner ear cartilage used as a plug). Despite all the reports in the media regarding the NHS there were no signs of any problems from the moment I arrived at 7am on the morning to leaving Friday afternoon. The attention from nurses, catering staff, medicine dispensers fellow patients was nothing but exemplary, all chatty friendly talking about their families to love working for the NHS etc. I arrived back from the op after lunch an was immediately given my lunch (kept for me) and other food from my fellow patients.
Very attentive staff who where friendly approachable and nothing was too much trouble. Offered nice food at every turn - even an ice cream when it was warm on Friday. The whole place was clean lots of facilities not akin to a nice hotel - very impressed and really not one complaint from me or from any other people on my small ward. If this is the NHS underfunded then the staff are managing it very well and certainly keeping it from their patients whom appear to bearing the brunt of it in the media. A very positive experience indeed - long live the NHS. Thank you to the doctor and his team and indeed everyone at Whipps Cross.
