"So impressed"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Ayr / Accident & Emergency University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology

(as the patient),

Had chest pain for 6 hours before going to A&E at Ayr hospital on a Sunday night. Was seen quickly by a nurse who then took me through to see a doctor. Decision was made to monitor me for some hours while doing routine checks and ECGs. Pain relief given and eventually morphine. Further ECGs showed different tracings and these were scanned to the cardiology unit at Hairmyres Hospital. The cardiologist wanted to perform an angiogram and an ambulance was called. The transfer took place at 3 am. The staff at Ayr and the ambulance men were so reassuring. I could not have asked for better care. The outcome was good - pericarditis rather than a heart attack.

I was discharged from Hairmyres the next afternoon and went home.

I was so impressed with the quality of care and compassion displayed by doctors and nurses at Ayr on a busy Sunday night.
