About: University Hospital Of North Tees

What could be improved

On arrival to the hospital (I live out of this area) there was no one manning the reception at the main entrance and we could not find any signs to say where we needed to be. I managed to locate a site plan on the reception desk but this had no reference to the department we needed. After wandering around the hospital for twenty minutes I managed to find a member of staff who could point us in the right direction.

My daughter was attending for an upper endoscopy and we were taken up to main theatres for this procedure. Prior to being taken in my daughter needed the toilet, she was taken to a cubicle situated within the theatre department and right next to where the nurses station was. My daughter felt embarrassed about this. Additionally and more importantly there werent any hand washing facilities within the immediate toilet area meaning my daughter had to not wash her hands until reachiong the waiting room that we were in! And this in the middle of general theatres!

Finally during recovery my daughter was issued an out patient prescription so I attended the outpatient pharmacy to collect this. Whilst waiting I needed to use the toilet so went in to the toilets within the out patient department. When I went to wash my hands the sinks were crawling with ants. I reported this but do not know what if anything was done about it.
