My husband and I went to Gloucester A&E last night when he caught his fingers in the blades of a ride on mower. The staff at Gloucester Royal were fantastic and dressed up his broken fingers , mangled nails and stitched the ends too. While waiting for a referral from them (due within 72 hrs) I contacted them to say that the dressings were saturated in blood and she recommended to go to Tewkesbury Hsp to have them redressed as it was important to keep them clean. So we went there at 7.30pm tonight and the place was empty. He was seen at 7.40pm and came out a couple of minutes later to say they have refused to change the dressings and he was to book in with the practice nurse in the morning!! (It is so bad that we have to put a plastic bag over his hand to collect the drips of blood coming from the bandages!) Looking at the clock I realised that they were only 10 mins from closing!! Don’t think she wanted to be redoing very nasty finger dressings so late as it possibly would have meant going past 8 o’clock heaven forbid!! Unbelievable how they could send him away. I am fuming especially when the Trauma Unit at Gloucester said we should go there. Wonder if she would have sent s family member away??
"Refused to clean dressing of saturated blood!"
