"Elective C-Section"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital / Maternity care

I had an elective section at Pinderfields on 26th March due to my baby being breech.

I’ve got to admit, the staff on PACU and in the theatre were amazing! I couldn’t have asked for better care. However, as soon as I was transferred to Ward 18, the staff & care was absolutely abismal.

The staff were more concerned with sitting around talking than patient care. My newborn son was left all day with no observations done. Furthermore, 1 day post partum I was left all day with no observations carried out either.

I was told to get a shower & remove my dressing so a midwife could come look at it & discharge me. This was at 2pm - I didn’t get discharged until gone 10pm due to the staff not coming and examining me. I asked numerous times what was happening but was just told “well I won’t have time to discharge you before I finish my shift”.

The attitude of the staff is horrific. They do not like to be disturbed during the night to come and pass you your baby. They act as though painkillers are being funded out of their own salary - they seriously don’t like giving you them & get really annoyed when you ask for them.

I would not have a planned section at Pinderfields ever again as I would hate to be on the ward with those staff.

Absolutely shocking treatment that 100% needs reviewing and sorting out so other people don’t experience this.

They then refused to give me back my maternity notes & wouldn’t give me a copy of the front page with all my community midwife details. I was treated like a criminal for even asking for a copy of them.

Please sort this out Pinderfields.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback.

From what you have described is not an experience we would want anyone to go through when using our services.

Having a baby should be a very special time and from reading your post, this was not your experience and I would like to offer my apologies to you.

It is important that we take a closer look into the events that occurred so that we are able to learn lessons.

However, given that this is a public website, it would not be appropriate to go into personal details.

Therefore, I wonder if you would contact our PALS team on 01924 542972 or send your concerns (including your name and date of birth) via email to pals@midyorks.nhs.uk.

Once we have received your information, we can process this for a formal investigation.

Thank you again.

Kind regards

Clare Blackburn
