What I liked

I was very impressed with the treatment I received. I was referred to the specialist plastics team at Derriford after a serious burn to my foot. I was seen quickly after reporting to the Emergency Department and the doctor from Plastics could not have have been better. She was higly professional throughout. She worked painstakingly on the burn while always alert to my needs, kept me informed at all times about what she was doing (and why) and worked hard to keep up my spirits. The support from Emergency staff was good, painkillers were provided quickly as were crutches, and I left as quickly as I reasonably could in as good a condition as could be hoped. The follow up at a clinic at Trelisk was much briefer but similarly high quality.

Anything else?

I needed crutches and living a long way from Derriford was disappointed to hear that I could not return them to any other NHS sites. As a result I will probably have to pay for them. I was further concerned to hear from one hospital source that crutches that are returned are not re-issed for fear of subsequent legal action in the event that they prove defective in some way.
