"Hysterectomy"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Gynaecology NHS Horsham and Mid Sussex CCG Spire Gatwick Park Hospital

(as the patient),

My NHS appointment was arranged by my GP.   After numerous ill health concerns. I agreed on a hysterectomy.   I was given Gatwick spire as a choice, simply because I have two children with disabilities at home and the after care as a patient would enhance my recovery.   Plus be nearer for the children should they need to see me. When I came for my second appointment to confirm I was told by the consultant that laparoscopy hysterectomy was not available at Gatwick spire and that I need to go on the generic waiting list for east surrey hospital and that after care is limited to one night due to lists.     I felt extremely mislead. And treated not as a patient but as a statistic. Why was I given the choice, then told no. The consultant went onto say that there are no surgeons available to assist laparoscopy hysterectomies at Gatwick spire? If it is not an option at Gatwick spire for NHS patients then surely this information needs sharing before referral is sent?  Afraid now I have to wait even longer and totally mislead.  There are valid reasons for my referral and my choice that has now been totally taken away.

Dear Mrs McP

I am sorry for this distressing situation and I would like to understand a little more about the circumstances under which you were led to believe that your surgery would be at Spire Gatwick Park, as this is not an option given to patients who are seen in clinics run by East Surrey Hospital.

Could you perhaps email me with the details of where your outpatients took place and the name of the consultant that you saw?

I would also like to ask a consultant to review your individual care needs to assess if more than one nights stay would be beneficial to you.

Kind regards
