"Very unhelpful and lack of co ordination..."

Having rung my gp for a wound check and dressing change on Friday, I was told that as they had no nurse on duty that day, to go to the walk in clinic. I rang the clinic to ask about dressing changes as was told just to turn up on Saturday morning. Having arrived at just after 8 and paid the extortionate £3 for one hour’s parking (minimum payable) I went in, only to be informed by the receptionist that the nurse doesn’t come in until 10! I asked if anyone else could do it, so she checked with the doctor and said no, come back after 10. Nowhere does it state this on the website and I feel that this was not only a waste of time but if money too! I will now have to pay the parking again!

In addition to this, the website states you can ring 111 for an appointment, which I tried to do on Friday, only to be read a script by that receptionist who told me that my nearest hub was Teddington and that there were NO hubs anywhere near Croydon or that they would send a district nurse in the next 12 hours (any time up to midnight!) I declined this as although the wounds need checking as there is a high risk of infection, I could not justify calling a district nurse out for this.

So sorry for the experience you describe, there was obviously quite a bit of confusion around your attendance which I will endeavour to clear up.

Redressing of wounds actually comes under Primary Care and wound management should be organised by your GP surgery, who do have the ability to book appointments for you in their Extended Access Service at weekends. Your surgery should not have advised you to attend the GP Hub walk-in service, this is something that you may wish to discuss with your surgery team.

The GP Hubs are in place as part of the Urgent Care offering across Croydon and are open 8am to 8pm daily for walk-in patients with minor illness or minor injury presentations.

At the Hubs we do understand that sometimes a wound needs more urgent attention, hence we advised of when a Nurse was available to assist.

With regard to parking charges, these are set by Croydon NHS Trust and not something we have jurisdiction over.

I cannot comment on your interaction with NHS 111, but can assure you that we are included in their directory of services.

Apologies again for the confusion.

Kind regards

L Hughes
