"Great experience"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Maternity

Recently visited the maternity ward / delivery suite. The staff in triage were very responsive helpful and give advice when needed. Very friendly staff who always keep you informed.

My midwife for my delivery was amazing in my opinion. My midwife was very attentive, she never left my side and was softly spoken and to the point during my labour. She worked very well with me despite me being high risk, but did not treat me as high risk she worked with me at the time and was not black and white / text book which was great as I was able to have my own input in my labour. The midwife showed and gave me advice on breast feeding she had knowledge about which was amazing. If I needed any help she would be there to assist.

She made lots of conversation and not just boring small talk, she was very caring and loved her job.

Once I had delivered the midwife had to fill out all the paperwork side of things, which meant she was away from the delivery suite, but she did come in often as she could to see how we were all doing, have a chat and to just be present and friendly.

The midwife was then asked to cover for other members of staff so was assisting another labour, which in my opinion that midwife should stay with you until you leave the hospital if you aren’t admitted. The midwife should been there from the start and should see you through to the very end.

We had visits from another midwife who was very attentive and communicated with us and updated us as much as she could.

Had to have peaditric doctor to review my baby, they were quick at attending and gave us great advice. We not only had 1 peaditric doctor but 2 so we had opinions, reassurance and advice.

Thank you for sharing your lovely experience with us and congratulations on the birth of your baby, we hope you are both well.

We are delighted you felt your midwife supported you throughout your labour and also offered advice following your delivery. We aim to enable our midwives to build a rapport with their patients and remain with them throughout their stay, however, we must utilise all staff to ensure all of our patients are receiving the highest level of care possible.

We will pass on your kind words to the maternity staff, including the Paediatric doctors who we are sure will be very grateful to receive them.
