On what was the start of a promising works night out I found myself enjoying my first taste of a pashwari nan bread, without knowing it contained almonds. Half an hour and one rather enthusiastic taxi driver, who was determined that I didnt "die or something" in his cab, later I found myself at the A&E of The Queen Elizabeth hospital in Glasgow. And here I was very quickly reminded of just how incredible the staff can be.
After a brief interaction at the help desk I was seen to very quickly and taken to the ARU and dealt with in a way I can only describe as with the utmost professionalism while still maintaining a degree of human emotion to make sure I felt relaxed and safe. From porters, to nurses, to doctors, every single member of staff I came into contact with had a smile on their face regardless of what time it was and how long they'd been on shift and also regardless of the fact it was a Thursday night, the start of a bank holiday weekend which I can't imagine to be the easiest of times.
Even when I was rightfully moved from my room at 4am due to others needing it more urgently, and was taken to ward 6A where Nurse Carly showed me to my new place of sleep it was done with a smile, a laugh and absolute pride in their work.
As I left the following day I couldn't help but be thankful for the service I was provided and once again felt that these people are so greatly underappreciated.
PS apologies for a poor memory regarding others name. A conversation at 4am tends to cement a memory and to be that cheery at that time is absolutely incredible.
"A rather unwelcome reminder that allergies don't always fade with time."
