"Delighted with the level of care and support"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / General Medicine (Wards 9-12)

(as the patient),

I recently required admission to Hairmyres Hospital via ambulance.

From the first point of contact with NHS 24 and thereafter the nursing advisor , I felt at ease and was given very good advice. Both staff members were professional , listened to my needs and were a credit to their profession, as more often than not, first impressions count.

Due to severe previous health problems and the fact that I had been vomiting non stop in excess of 32 Hours,  NHS 24 staff, deemed it necessary that an ambulance be sent to my home address.

Both the paramedic and technician were extremely empathic, caring and knowledgeable and albeit I was very ill they certainly calmed me and put my mind at ease.

Again on arrival at the A&E department of Hairmyres , all members of the nursing and medical staff were fantastic.

Everything was explained to me in a clear and concise manner which made the siutuation much more bearable.

I was thereafter admitted to ward 10 , where once again the level of care was excellent and after two days was transferred to ward 6.

The level of professionalism and care I received throughout my stay was outstanding and nothing was too effort much for any member of staff from the bottom up to the top.

No amount of thank you cards, gifts or verbal appreciation can depict how delighted I was with the level of care and support provided to me throughout my stay.

Having worked for the emergency services for almost 30 years, I can appreciate the tremendous stress and pressure all hospital staff are under, irrespective of their rank.

I think that people are so quick to criticise but very slow to appreciate and commend nursing staff.

I would be really pleased if my post was successful in being chosen as a post as I feel these wonderful individuals who cared for me, nursed me and listened to me, more than deserve an award for outstanding excellence.

Hi Lainey

How good of you to take the time to provide positive feedback on your journey of care. I do hope you are feeling much better. Your story is an excellent example of when services work together to provide the best possible patient care.

It was especially good of you to mention the staff at NHS 24 who managed your call to our service. Our staff work tirelessly to provide an excellent service and I will ensure that your story is shared more widely within NHS 24 to remind staff of the important role they play in providing a positive patient experience. You are absolutely correct when you say that 'first impressions count' and here at NHS 24 we try to ensure all callers are put at ease.

I note my colleague Margaret, from NHS Lanarkshire, has thanked you for your complimentary feedback for Harimyres staff. I am sure their staff will be delighted with your feedback.

Should you care to contact me to provide any specific detail about your call to NHS 24 then I would be pleased to hear from you. I can be contacted on 0141 337 4582 or by email at patientaffairs@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

Take care and thanks again.

With regards

Shona

As our partners at NHS24 and NHS Lanarkshire have already said, it is great to hear such brilliant feedback on the NHS care you received from all of our staff.

It is really good of you to take the time to share your story and our staff will certainly be delighted to hear your lovely comments and more importantly, that they were able to reassure you in what must have been a worrying time.

I do hope you are recovering well and are now back to full health.

All the best and thanks again,
