I delivered my 3rd child at whipps a few months ago. I would strongly suggest to other parents that you look else where to have your baby. When I arrived at 7pm to a busy triage, I had as completely ignored. There is no system in place for the triage to even register your arrival. After 30 minutes and lots of begging, I was finally looked at and told I was only 4cm and that I should go home. I explained this was my 3rd baby and that my labours are very fast. I was ignored and the triage nurses spoke rudely about me, in front of me, as if I didn’t exist. I was made to carry my bag back into the corridor and stand for the next 30 minutes whilst I was in full labour. I had no pain relief and nobody checked on me despite how distressed I was. At 8pm I was finally given a room and given Gas and air by 8.15pm. My daughter was delivered 30 minutes later.
The ward is clearly dangerously understaffed.Whilst my midwife who delivered my baby was very kind and professional, she was rushed off her feet. There is no excuse for the disgusting attitude shown by the triage nurses. I feel that an animal would have been given more respect than I was shown. This was my 3rd child so I had a good idea what to expect - I strongly urge any first time parents to stay away from this hospital. I dread to think what could of happened if there were any complications in my labour given that I was only given pain relief for the last 45 minutes, and only had a midwife assess me when I shouted the baby was coming. Please please avoid.
