"Poor ent consultantation"

About: Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust

I had my ENT appointment on 21 April 2018. The consultant was very poor. He did not want to listen to my problems, even though my voice was poor and my head pains and tinnitus were very bad he did not even give me a cursory examination. The only test I was given was a standard hearing test which the technician carried out in a kind and considerate manner. The consultant only seemed to want to talk about how good my GP's are. The reason I was referred to ENT was because my GP said that my condition was outside his area of expertise. He did refer me to the tinnitus clinic and for a MRI scan but we felt he did not want to get to the reason I had the problems. Although he did ask if we had any questions at the end of the appointment we had lost all confidence in him and knew he would not listen. He seemed to have his own agenda based only on the tinnitus referral and did not want to be involved in my other throat and head pain symptoms which, in my opinion being the person who is suffering, are related. What a difference from my recent attendance at A+E where I was listened to and given proper care, tests and attention !

Good Afternoon

We are really sorry you have had to post these comments about your recent experience. This is certainly not the standard of care we expect any of our patients to receive this falls well below what we would expect. It is disappointing that there are staff not demonstrating the Trust values and behaviours.

If you would like to speak to someone regarding this please contact Pals and Complaints department on 0161 922 4466 or email Palsandcomplaints@tgh.nhs.uk so that we can look into and investigate your concerns. Otherwise I would like to assure you that your concerns will be shared with all ENT consultants anonymously for their awareness and reflection.
