"A and e - Lyn Jarrett unit"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

(as a carer),

Sadly today we have experienced poor person centred care from many health professionals - nana who is in her 90s was admitted to a and e via ambulance (who were fantastic) and was taken to initial assessment - despite staying nana had dementia and was very scared and confused   she was taken alone. No one gave an update and when reunited we were party to two nurses discussing her - stating they didn’t know why she was here and neither did she! Well if they’d listened they would have known she was not reliable to give a recent history. When she needed the bathroom it was announced loudly across a and e if she needed a commode or bed pan! ! Total lack of dignity.

Transferred to Lyn Jarrett unit and of course handover time so no one interested! Only for ya again To over hear her being discussed as having been admitted from a care home! ! Again taking two minutes to say hello and they would have known she was admitted from home not a care home!   I’m reassuring her that she will be safe and well cared for however so far the care I have witnessed I have my doubts, let’s hope things improve. I’d suggest that the staff receive some dementia training or indeed some basic manners. Don’t get me wrong some of the staff mostly the care assistants in a and e were caring and thoughtful but could teach their colleagues some valuable lessons.
