Tuesday 10th I had terrible pain in my right hand side. I eventually phoned for an ambulance as I started vomiting which is something I have no memory of ever doing. The care I received from the moment I dialled 999 to the moment I was discharged from hospital, minus my gallbladder, was superb.
I can't help having a particular interest in how care is delivered as I research and educate about patient safety and human factors for NHS Education for Scotland. I was made to feel looked after and safe by all the staff I encountered, who time and again would just say they were doing their jobs.
To all the staff from the paramedic who attended me, the A&E staff who initially looked after me, the domestics who fed and watered me, the porters who transported me, those who scanned me, the nurses who checked and reassured me, the healthcare support workers who chatted with me, the doctors who informed and treated me. Everyone on Ward 7 in Borders General Hospital, the theatre teams and everyone who plays a supporting role. Thank you for being so caring, thank you for being so professional, thank you for making me feel safe and looked after. You are a credit and everything the NHS should be.
