At the advice of the 111 service, we took our 4 year old son to the UCC on a Sunday morning.
He had complained of ear ache on the Saturday evening and, overnight, had bled from the ear.
The doctor who saw him (in and out of the surgery in circa 2-3 minutes) advised that he had no blood in the ear canal and so had just burst a blood vessel and there was no infection.
On Monday morning, he had more blood in the ear and so took him to our own GP where he was noted to have a perforated ear drum with puss coming out of it.
Apparently the UCC is now run by a private company and our GP has had several issues with them lately.
Can 't fault the speed of getting us to the UCC from when we first rang and the call back to tell us to attend, but if they can't get the basic care right, we'll have to consider whether there is any merit in using the service again and not go straight to A&E where the doctors are hopefully more competent.
