I arrived at A&E on Friday 13th April 2018 and was faced with a massive queue of people waiting for attention (6pm in the evening). No where to sit and people having been waiting 5 hours and more. After a wait an acceptable two hours we were seen by a Nurse who was kind and explained the likelihood of a broken leg. He arranged a x-ray and styed with us and explained the leg was indeed broken. The nurse then calmly and clearly explained the next steps and fitted a 'boot' to the injured leg and whisked us out of this very busy A&E department. He was unflappable and caring in difficult circumstances.
So:
1. There are some real stars working in poor circumstances in A&E at Tameside.
2. Dreadful layout and appearance of an overcrowded A&E waiting room
3. No management in sight
4. One poor young man trying his best to deal with an avalanche of questions and enquiries on the reception desk.
5. The reception desks appear as barrier and are very unwelcoming.
