Having used this service before I was expecting good things. I had rung 111 having suddenly experienced new onset numbness to my leg. I had completely lost all feeling. I asked 111 to arrange the out of hours service which they refused to do and told me to go to A and E.
I arrived at A and E and explained that I was advised to come there but wanted to use the out of hours GP service. they triaged me after 30 mins and I was told to make my way round to the centre.
I managed to get there bearing in mind I still had no feeling in one leg. I got there at 8pm and they said I would need to wait. At 10.30 they told me they were closing and couldn't see me with no warning this was going to happen and I had to go back and queue at A and E. After another hour I was seen by a doctor who did a quick examination and declared he thought it was either nerve compression or multiple sclerosis and I should see my GP as soon as possible for an urgent scan. I was then left with no medication or help or advice other than hopefully it will resolve itself and if it doesn't then its not really life-threatening so you can manage.
"Out of hours service very hit and miss"
