"Feeling Let Down"

About: NHS Bromley CCG

(as a carer),

My husband was diagnosed with urge incontinence at Orpington Hospital about 4/5 years ago. This is partly due to his age and weakened bladder muscles and partly due to his dementia - his brain forgetting to tell him he needs to go to the toilet.

He has been receiving regular supplies of incontinence pants from NHS Supplies since then and has recently attended an incontinence clinic at Kidbrooke.

We actually live in Chislehurst and have done for 20 years, but he retained his old GP in William Barefoot Drive which is classed as Eltham and is therefore in Greenwich and Bexley District, whilst Chislehurst, where we live, is in Bromley. He decided to change GP's recently because of increasing problems of having a GP in a different borough to where we live. However, this means he now has to wait up to 12 weeks for an appointment to be assessed by an incontinence nurse and be prescribed pads/pants. Why?

He has already been seen and diagnosed. He has been receiving regular supplies but is now going to run out because he was due to receive a delivery from Greenwich and Bexley but they are unable to supply now we do not have a GP in their borough and we have been told we have to buy our own until the assessment. These cost around £108 for what he would usually have delivered. He is an OAP and entitled to free prescriptions so why, even if he cannot be seen for 12 weeks, can't the supplies be ordered for him. I cannot understand in this age of technology that there is no exchange of records, or continuance of care.   Why should changing your GP cause so many problems.

The Bromley Healthcare website says it can be embarrassing and depressing to suffer from dementia and their specialist nurses are there to offer support but I don't feel supported as a carer neither does my husband as a patient.
