"Surgery and stay on Barclay ward"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus

To say I was anxious for my Thoracic surgery and the fact I hated staying in hospitals after a couple of short stays and being messed about by other hospitals was a understatement. I was a mess to the point I nearly didn't go through with my surgery. The fact I had an amazing surgeon and anathestist who did everything to keep me calm got me through it.

I will admit it wasn't the best experience coming round because I was told i was trialed on a new way of pain relief apparently where they dont give it u during but after and it sure as hell didn't work so came round in absaloute agony but the care received from the staff and the dignity they provided me with was second to none.

I am only 31 and in the care industry so to have nurses/hca providing me with personal care and doing things i normally do was hard for me but they made it easier.

The food was amazing, the place was cleaned all time. They were attentive and supportive even though they were rushed off their feet with the bed crisis we had in january. If they forgot something u just reminded them and they did it for u ...we had a lot of older people on the ward few with severe dementia and high needs because they had no beds anywhere else so these people took up a lot of time and effort for the nurses etc, when they have patients who have just undergone major Surgery, but they still remained professsional under all the stress.

It cured my fear of hospital, aslong as it's city hospital i won't stay any where else. Just an outstanding ward, outstanding staff, outstanding surgeon. I really trust him and he always made the effort to come and see me every day.

i have been ill on and off for a good many years and noone ever found out why, until i was transferred to city hospital with pneumonia a couple of years ago,

All the appointments with the doctor and surgeon and thoroughness of this hospital in General have most definitely helped and gave me a diagnosis of myasthenia and prob saved my life as extreme as it sounds the mass in my chest although not cancerous would probably have grown malignant as the cells grew on it.

I am sure I will be back in soon as I have a feeling I will be having more surgery due to a damaged diaphram from the surgery but I am now not so scared as I was.

Please continue to be the best...xx

Much love to all the Drs, Nurses, HCA, and all other staff, especially the amazing tea lady..xx

Thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch with us to share the details of your experience. I’m so pleased to hear that you found our staff to be attentive, supportive and professional. I am sorry to hear that you suffered so much pain after your operation. I’ve shared this lovely feedback with my colleagues on the ward. I am sure this will give them an extra boost to continue providing the best possible care to our patients and their families.

Sending my best wishes.
