"Great care as a Heart Patient at Heartlands Hospital"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

Two years ago I suffered a heart attack and was taken to Heartlands hospital where I was cared for very well. I was particularly thankfull of the consultant James Beetie and his team for saving my life. I stayed in the hospital for a total of 14 days and all this time I was treated extremely well.

I have since been back to the hospital and again been treated by James Bettie and his team. All of the staff that I have ever been in contact with have been wonderful and even the food, although could be improved, is catered to the best for our medical needs and religious beliefs.

It is now being decided what my next stage of treatment will be and to ensure I am healthy enough for a CRT with the chance of me having a bypass. I am confident that the team will decide on the best course of action however I do feel that the consultants should sit down with the patients and we should be a part of the decision process rather than just receiving a letter telling me what will happen.

My six monthly outpatient appointments should also allow for more time to have an in-depth discussion with the consultants. I don't feel that these cover enough and regular reviews of medications should be part of this as I have been on the same medication for two years.

The medication I am on is a water tablet and therefore I am not able to work as the job I have does not give me easy access to a toilet. As a result of this I think that the the hospital should be able to make the decision that I am unfit for work and not let it be handled by a tribunal as there are other conditions as well as my ongoing heart that I am a diabetic too.
