"Receptionist absolutely appalling"

About: Tiptree Medical Centre

My husband was informed by our nursery when our daughters came down with chicken pox last week that the doctor might want to have a look over them and confirm it’s chcike pox and also to note on their records that they’ve had it.

He called the surgery to confirm whether this was something he needed to do and was met by an extremely rude receptionist who told him he was irresponsible for even suggesting bringing a child with an infectious disease into the practice. He told her that he had no intention of doing so because he understood that wouldn’t be sensible but he just wanted to double check he didn’t need to tell the doctor to put this on their notes as we’ve not had this experience before. The receptionist then continued to not listen and continued to say that it would be reckless regardless of my husband telling her that he wasn’t suggesting just bringing them in. She then told him he needed to buy calpol and not bother the doctors. He told her he had already done that and didn’t need her non medical advice on how to care for his daughters.

When he said he would like to complain to the practice manager she told him to do that and then hung up.

Where on earth do the receptionists get their training from?! He was never suggesting to just bring them in it was purely because our nursery said the doctor may want to see them so he wanted to double check what the procedure was.

Literally the rudest welcome we’ve ever had and really upset my daughters who could hear the entire conversation.

I am sorry that you are unhappy with the service from the practice. As to your complaint every aspect of your comments were dealt with including the way you were spoken to by the receptionist which I entirely agreed was inappropriate. I am not sure what has constituted this dialogue and perhaps if you were to give me the opportunity of investigating it we could resolve the issue. Once again I am sorry that you have had a problem.
