I accompanied my wife to the A&E Dept on 24th March by Ambulance.
We arrived late afternoon and were released at just before Midnight.
There was a possibility that my Wife was suffering from a TGA (or TIA) attack .as the symptoms were similar to a problem which occurred some years ago.
It was confirmed after thorough testing that it was a TGA and not a TIA which we know is more serious.
Needless to say this was reassuring news for which we were very grateful to receive.
Being a Saturday , the Department was extremely busy.
The staff were coping very well with the large numbers of patients requiring help and patience was required as it was clear the delay for assessment would be several hours.
Although I am not medically trained, it was obvious that the large majority of people requiring help , seemed to have coughs and colds and could have initially received assistance from their GP. if their surgery had been open.
Although the final diagnosis was a TGA attack I would have been unhappy with the delay if the problem had been a TIA.
This is no reflection on the staff as they were all coping well in the circumstances.
I would therefore like to add my name to those who are suggesting that Doctors from our GP Surgeries should be available at Week ends..
My wife and I very grateful that we have such a wonderful NHS Hospital available but are concerned that it will become increasingly difficult for the A&E Department to cope at Week Ends,
Sincerely J.K
