"Total knee replacement"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I was admitted to Sunderland Royal Hospital in December 2017 for a total knee replacement after years of being refused treatment in my home town of Hull for being too young at 47 and overweight.

The consultant agreed to my surgery immediately, on my first consultation and was confident that my life would be improved with a new knee and how right he was!

I feel like a new person that has been given a new lease of life. It has certainly changed my life for the better. I am now able to sleep without waking up in agony several times throughout the night. I can walk without being in agony , limping and dragging my leg.

The treatment was amazing and extremely quick. Was it painful? Yes extremely, but I knew it would pass and it did. The staff were absolutely amazing, although the nurses were run off their feet they always had a kind word and a smile. The consultant is straight talking and such a lovely, cheerful man who puts his patients at ease immediately - a true gentleman.

I won’t hestitate to go back to The consultant and Sunderland Royal Hospital when my left knee needs replacing. First class treatment. Thank you all so much.
