"Unprofessional and uncaring disorganised staff"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

I have been disgusted twice with the care I received , lately I was taken to a & e with chest pain and palpitations after a long haul flight and was seen by a triage nurse of which there was 4 and only 6 patients waiting for care yet still took 4.5 hours for all to be seen be !!

The triage nurse did not inform the dr I had been on a flight or pass on half the information if my symptoms meaning I had to have further tests done including a blood clot test and sample for parasites which I had to have done at my gp surgery as refused to wait another hour after already sitting for over 4 hours in a & e , even the dr looked annoyed at the nurses complete disregard for communication .

The nursing staff seem lack lustre and there seems to be no staff structure.

2 wide screen TVs in waiting room yet supposedly short of funds, more like staff restructure problems. The nhs needs to be run more like the private sector then maybe more work would be done.

I am sorry that you are unhappy with the length of time that you had to wait in our Emergency Department however, this is one of our busiest departments and our staff have to prioritise the patients who need urgent lifesaving care. The number of patients in the waiting room is not always representative of how busy the department in as ambulance arrivals come through via a separate entrance.
