About: Vale of Leven General Hospital

(as the patient),

I attended the Vale of Leven Hospital on Saturday Evening as i had been ringing the local District nurses to get a wound checked and dressings changed but this didnt happen and i was concerned. On attending this department i feel it was a waste of my time when i was told by this nurse in the Minor Injuries that they couldn't deal with this as they do not have the necessary dressings i think its a disgrace that i was made to feel insecure that they were not going to change the dressings on my foot stating this is a minor injuries unit not something we do and i had to repeat myself 10 times till i said i need it change eventually one nurse changed the dressing .

i think its a disgrace that when there is a minor injuries  unit and MAU that they don't have any dressings to deal with my condition that i had i was angry and upset at the way i was treated last night

Dear waterloo

I am disappointed to read of your recent experiences in relation to not being able to access the D/N and when you attended the MIU at the Vale of Leven.

I am sure the staff will be disappointed to read your comments stating that you felt they were not interested in you - as I am certain this was not their intent.

It might be helpful to explain that the unit is specifically there to treat minor injuries such as cuts ( including those that need stitched ) broken bones, sprains and minor burns. The unit will hold a stock of dressings applicable to these conditions and as such may not have had the particular dressing you required.

I note that your dressing was satisfactorily changed.

It might be helpful to contact the district nursing service or your GP to ensure that you are provided with an adequate supply of the dressing you require.

I hope that your wound is improving.

Regards

Update posted by waterloo (the patient)

I did not find your reply much help. as I explained in my original posts I attended the unit because I had left calls for the District nurses the whole day on the Friday and Saturday but no joy with them both which was a holiday weekend. should I have left it given that the actual diagnosis was sepsis not an ulcer as I was told. in future I wont bother the service if thats your answer which was not helpful in my recovery then in future I wont hold up the service.

Thank you for your reply and please be assured you are in no way a bother or causing any hold up to the service. The information offered about dressings was merely an explanation as to why the full range of dressing stock is not readily available in such a unit and was not intended to sound like an excuse or an invitation to go elsewhere.

The team in the VOL will be happy to offer support or advice even on the telephone should a similar situation arise for you.

If we can help you gain the necessary support or stock from GP or District nurses then please do not hesitate to contact me on Marie.Farrell@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

Assuring you of our attention should it be required
