"What a Shambles"

About: Compass House Medical Centres

I have recently hurt my leg and after a week and half of self treatmenr this morning i phoned the doctors to see if i could get an appointment. I had to ring 28 times before anybody answered the phone. The young lady who answered the phone read me out a list of questions and on the basis of my answers i was told to go away and make an appointment with physio. After being in agony with pain in my knee today i went to Torbay hospital A&E who had a look at my knee and gave me a prescription for some anti inflamatory and painkillers but unfortunately didnt tell me that the prescription could only be used in Torbay Hospital pharmacy, On the way home i called into Sainsburys Pharmacy only to be told that i coulkdnt get the tablets as the prescription could only be redeemed at an hospital and to try brixham. I went to Brixham hospital and was told by a doctor there that i could take the prescription back to Torquay or go to my own doctors (Compass House) and ask them to exchange it and get a normal prescription. I went to Compass House and was told by the receptionist that they were unable to swop the precription and that i had to go back to torbay hospital. so i told them they may as well keep the prescriptio as i was in so much pain that i couldnt go all the way baxk to torquay. Since Compass House has brought in this navigation system i have nothing but trouble in getting past the receptionists who apparently now are trained up to diaganose medicak problems which is not the case in jan i rang the surgery as my friend appeared to be very ill and was being violently sick i rang the surgery and after speaking to the receptionist i was told to go out and buy her diarolite to rehydrate her i did this and the next day my friend was even worse so i rang the doctors again only to go through the same procedure again and was told to give her sips of water which didnt work either on the 3rd day i rang the surgery and was advised to do the same things againn i told them i had tried all that and she was in need of seeing a doctor and was was told that a doctor wouldnt come out to see somebody who was just being sick after having an argument with the receptionist they agreed to get somebody to ring me. later i spoke to a very nice nurse who said she would get a doctor to ring me. in the end the doctor on call rang me within 1/2 an hour my friend was blue lighted to torbay hospital suffering from type 1 diebetes. it appears to me that the automated system they are using to diagnose patients ailments does not work and getting an appoimtment with a gp is an impossibility let alone being able to see the same one twice. i am seriously condsidering moving to anothers doctors where i dont have to discuss my ailments with a mindless machine or unttrained medical assistant. My advice is go somewher else if you need treatment

We are sorry that the surgery doesn't seem to be meeting your expectations on this occasion. Unfortunately we are really restricted by our current telephone system with the number of lines coming in. To resolve these issues we are investing in a new cloud based telephone system that will give us more telephone lines and enable us to use and manage more features our self, such as call waiting. This new system will be implemented in early April so please bear with us in this interim period. With regards to our Health Navigation, this involves asking a few questions to understand the nature of your call using clinically designed protocols and this enables the Health Navigator to offer the most appropriate professional qualified to deal with patient needs. Health Navigation is not a clinical consultation and it does not make a diagnosis or plan treatment it merely connects the patient with the right health care professional first time, saving patients time and also freeing up GPs to focus on the things only they can do.

We do understand your frustration regarding your prescription but any hospital prescription can only be collected from the hospital pharmacy direct. Unfortunately we cannot comment on your friend’s situation but if they would like to contact the surgery with more details we will look into this and provide a full response to her.
