"Crisis Team"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult Mental Health Services - Community (City)

(as a service user),

Everytime I ring the Nottingham crisis team I feel like they just don't listen to anything I say and feel like a complete mug I try to reach out for help and support but feel more of a burden to society as frusttraction sets in. I know they are not magicians but I just wish they understood a bit more or didn't try to fob you off and tell you to go for a walk in minus 1 degrees in the snow.

I've been depressed and my heads been playing up for months and I  cant even make sense of it so when I ring and get some one that just don't give a toss on the other end it can push me over the edge a little. I've just had spoken to one of the most patronising people I've ever spoke to that clearly wasn't listening to a word I said and made me feel ten times worse than what I already did.

There has been times I've felt the service has improved then you get a person like this.  The care is poor and I feel I will end in a worse place before I get better. All I want is to be normal and to talk to someone who understands or someone who can help me try and understand mental health a little bit better. Because at the moment I feel like I am ready to explode.

Dear Daz87,

I am sorry to here that you are currently having a difficult time and feel like your attempts to reach out for help and support are not being well recieved.

It makes such a difference when we feel understood and can meet somene who helps us to make sense of our thoughts and feelings better. I would really appreciate you contacting me to discuss which aspects of the service you are not happy with. I am also keen that we think about what is going to make you feel better and improve your mental health. Perhaps you could contact me on Mobile Number 07917174455 Tel: 0115 9691300 ext 12941 so that we can discuss this further.

With warmest wishes,

Zoe Whitaker (Clinical Psychologist - City & County South CRHT)

Update posted by Daz87 (a service user)

I wrote this last week but it was published today this response will probably be published next week. I used the service again today I don't remember who I spoke to but it was a lady and I left that phone conversation feeling less stressed less upset less guilty and less likely to harm myself.I'll be honest I've only ever had 1 decent conversation with a male in my experience, they just don't get it and it's that majority my frustration is towards and then the odd few other staff that in my view ain't got a scooby that leave you frustrating but again the service I received this afternoon was amazing, not gonna lie.

There are a few staff in my view that need training in english as a second language lessons. Some staff I have spoken to lack manners and just generally being able to hold a conversation with a patient because if they can't do that then I really don't think they should be answering the phone. Just for me to put it back down.

Thank you

Daz87 I am so pleased that you have had a better experience, though all contacts should be positive and I understand how disheartening it must feel when they aren't. May I ask, if you know whether you are with the City or County South team? It helps us to target training efforts and see where we need to support staff.

I am happy to have a chat about this.

With warmest wishes,

Zoe Whitaker (Clinical Psychologist - City & County South CRHT)
