About: Woodhouse Medical Practice

Having undergone major cardiac surgery in January 2006 my annual review has routinely been arranged each January but not this time. Not wishing to trouble anyone I chose the online option to make an appointment in March. On the morning of my appointment having shaved showered and clothed myself appropriately for necessary tests the receptionist (a lovely person committed to enhance the patient's care and well being) phoned to cancel explaining that I had a ten minute appointment but required thirty(which it certainly did not). Eventually I received a replacement appointment with a health care nurse on Friday 9th March which lasted less than fifteen minutes even with a cosy chat. I asked if I could have my blood checked for Prostate-specific Antigen but was met with reluctance despite the fact they were taking my blood for other checks. One week later I phoned to obtain my results but was diverted to an answering machine and a tropical disease inoculation facility. I was finally successful in obtaining my results which were all clear. Evidently the importance to my GP's staff of such information has little urgency despite the patient suffering anxiety. I established that the PSA test had not been carried out and when I asked why the answer came three days later by phone that it would not be beneficial or conclusive. My next appointment to see a health care person will be in April (a further delayed follow up ). I have made enquiries about changing my GP (it is rare to see the same one twice) but I am so disappointed, dismayed and dispirited that I will simply avoid medical contact for the good of my health.
