"Visiting"

About: Lings Bar Hospital

I asked to visit my dad outside of normal visiting hours (11 in the morning) as I was unable to get in the afternoon, but was refused. I was happy to take him out of the ward for the visit. This inflexible attitude is hard to understand. Visiting is beneficial to the patients giving them a break from their long, boring day and should be encouraged. Why is it not open visiting at a rehabilitation hospital?

I am sorry that you were not allowed to visit your father at Lings Bar hospital and were turned away, that is really dissapointing to hear and must have been very upsetting for you and your father.

Lings Bar hospital tries really hard to ensure we are flexible and meet families and patients needs for visiting and do try to provide a balanced approach for all.

We have set visitng times of 2pm -8pm each day but do offer flexibilty outside of those hours as we understand that families may not be able to visit during visiting hours so I am really sorry that this was not carried out for you.

I will ensure that the ward managers are reminded to be flexible and to ensure we do not turn relatives away at all.

We do try to restrict visiitng a little, as patients do have rehabilitation exercises with the therapy team that they need to undertake and when we operated all day visitng in the past we did have patients reluctant to participate in the rehabilitation programe as visitors were coming throughout the day, which meant the patients did not progress their independance and reach their goals to prepare them for dischagre. Terefore a balance needed to be reached and so visitng hours were re set.

If you would like to discuss your concern more detail please could you contact the Head of Service Janine Patrickson Daly on 01158837428 or via email janine.patrickson-daly@nottshc.nhs.uk

She will be more than happy to help in any was possible.

Kind Regards
