"If moving to the area you'd be better with..."

About: Longton Health Centre

After 14 years with this practice i have just moved, in the end i got fed up with the same issues re-occurring. I'm a very occasional visiter and only for a cholesterol tablet. The problem starts with having to self manage the time scale of when to get a blood test because they never remind me in anyway or think to be proactive, next issue is then getting a booked blood test which has an average time scale of three wks and rarely fits in with been a shift worker because i only ever know what i'm working a wk at a time. The easiest way to over come that is to collect the form and go preston hosiptal and take a ticket for a wasted morning or afternoon. When the results come back it's then usual for the doc (never the same one)to want to talk to me, this is always a telephone call which they can't confirm will be at a set time on the day and then it's only a case of confirming you can continue on as before so really a waste of time, no other checks i.e blood pressure etc have been offered or suggested now for around three to four yrs. There are other people i have spoken to who are equally dissappointed but just have'nt to move as yet but the overall impression is that over the yrs it's got just to many patients to properly look after them all for the ratio of doctors and nurses. If you are moving to the area i'd speak to some local people before deciding to join this doc's because there are better alternatives.

Thank you for your comments, I am sorry you have felt the need to move practices, therefore I am unable to look into this further for you and comment on your review individually.

However the practice does have review and recall systems in place which patients are reminded and encouraged to participate in with a full health check.

Patients who take regular repeat medication have their medication reviewed by the practice.

Patients are encouraged to self manage re-ordering their own regular repeat medication in time as it can take 48 working hours for prescriptions to be checked and signed by the clinicians, we are able to send prescriptions to patient's nominated pharmacies though if they wish to collect their medication when the surgery is closed.

Blood tests can be booked up to four weeks in advance here at the practice.

We also host community blood clinics here whilst also giving our patients the choice of attending other community blood clinics held locally which sometimes are more convenient for our patients.

As part of patient care if the outcome of investigations necessitate in a follow up telephone call then this is arranged with the next available clinician or usually the clinician who has arranged the initial investigations.

If patients request only to speak to a specific clinician then they may experience a delay in telephone clinical assessment calls being booked and in turn a delay in clinical assessment.

Inevitably sometimes delays in clinics or emergencies do happen therefore we do not guarantee what time clinical telephone assessment call backs may take place other than during the course of the morning or the afternoon.

We try and be as flexible as possible if patients let us know we are able to accommodate most people's working patterns.

We also have a blood pressure monitor in our waiting room for all patients to measure their weight, height, BMI and blood pressure which is free to use and available whilst the surgery is open.

We continue to welcome and register new patients in the area to our practice whilst looking after our existing patients with our growing healthcare team.

Thank you again for taking the time to post your comments I hope my feedback has been helpful to you.
